COMMODORE LIGHT RAIL

ABOUT

CLIENT: HPH Hospitality
BUILDING: Pier A
LOCATION: New York, NY
YEAR: 2014

Lighting the Commodore’s Room in Pier A started as a design challenge and ended with a beautifully handcrafted solution. MRD was asked to light the bar tops along the walls with little change to the historically land-marked teak walls and ceiling. Using the narrative of a captain’s study, MRD created hand sketches and multiple iterations of in-house 3D printed prototypes. The result was a brass rail system that concealed a warm linear LED to illuminate the counter tops. The brass end brackets were designed to fit the LED lighting components, aesthetically compliment the the room, and have little effect on Pier A’s historical teak stained walls.
