The World is the largest privately owned luxury yacht on the planet. In 2012, MRD designed and installed new lighting for the exterior and interior of the ship as well as a custom touchscreen control system accessible from the Bridge. The funnel’s architecture was accentuated using flood lights located within recessed, custom designed enclosures that are watertight and flush with the deck surface. Over 900m of warm white LEDs were installed around the ship’s exterior profile to enhance and promote the ‘yacht’ feel of the vessel and to showcase it while in port.
MRD also designed and installed lighting in the Quantum Lounge, a breakaway space for residents. We backlit an existing curved glass wall with RGB wall washers that change color throughout the day and can be seen through the large circular windows facing the exterior of the ship.
